Is It Time For A New Air Conditioning System?
As a homeowner, you need to realize that the air conditioning system of today is far better than those in the past. If you have been using the same unit for a decade now, you need to contemplate on finding and purchasing a new one. Better units in this sense means the new air conditioning systems are more efficient and powerful in one. So, is it time for a new air conditioning system? The answer is a definite yes!
Majority of homes in the United States have air conditioning systems. The reason is plain obvious: the summer months offer scorching and unpleasant heat and the only way to beat it is having your home sit comfortably with cool indoor air and temperature. But the sad thing about air conditioning is that it will cost you a lot of money to run, maintain, and repair them. This is especially true when you have a unit that’s been questionable in terms of efficiency and power mainly because it has served you for quite a long time. Just like any other appliance, equipment, or gadget you’re using, there will always come a time when you need air conditioning replacement.
Now in the process of looking for the ideal replacement, there are three aspects or factors that you need to consider. These are efficiency, size, and the concept of buying a new one.
Efficiency
You have to understand how an air conditioning system works in order to know the specifics of efficiency. Of course, your goal here is to purchase and install something that is more efficient than your previous one. The efficiency of a typical air conditioner is measured by its Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio or SEER. It is technically defined as the total cooling in BTU’s divided by the watts consumed. Hence, an air conditioner with a higher SEER means you get something that is considered as an energy efficient system. But then again, SEER isn’t the only thing to look into when it comes to efficiency. You do have to consider things like home insulation, the state of your ductwork, and others.
Unit Size
Some people think size doesn’t really matter or perhaps the bigger the unit is the more it consumes energy. But it’s actually not that easy. Keep in mind that in choosing the right size of the air conditioning system for your home, you have to look at the climate, number of windows in the room, style of the interior, amount of insulation, weather stripping, shade, and so many other variables. In fact, it is best and sensible to consult an expert on this one.
The Concept of Buying
Finally, one of the things you need to weigh on is whether you feel like it’s time to have a new air conditioning system. Yes, it’s true that yours might well be outdated, but is it failing you? Sometimes, even if you have a particularly old system, you don’t feel the need for air conditioning replacement simply because you’re contented with the comfort it provides and the energy bills you pay for running it.
